Stephen M. Oleszkiewicz
90 years old, of Chicago, IL passed away on January 20, 2024.
Stephen was a lifetime resident of the Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago. He attended grade school at St. Barbara’s Church and high school at Weber High School. As a boy he played basketball and football and education was a vital part of his life. After he attended St. Joseph’s College, he went on to pursue a degree in Law from DePaul University, where he graduated Class of 1958. Stephen was a trusted attorney to many in the Bridgeport neighborhood for over 60 years. He was proud to pass on his love of Law to his sons, Vincent and Robert who are also attorneys.
His extensive knowledge of history, art, literature, language, theater, opera, and classical music provided rich, detailed conversation to all who knew him. He loved attending symphonies with his wife Mary Jane. Stephen was an accomplished tennis player and member of Evergreen Tennis Club. He was a kind, devout Catholic and attended weekly mass at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church, serving as a lector, choir member, and usher over the years. He was a 4th Knight of Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and George Oleszkiewicz of Bonfield Street in Bridgeport who promoted a strong Polish heritage. Steve was fluent in the Polish language.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane (nee Stolarski) Oleszkiewicz of 68 years, children Vincent (Sandra) Oleszkiewicz, Diane Gallagher, Robert Oleszkiewicz (Hon. Geraldine D’Souza), and Victoria Carlo (Robert).
Grandfather to Lauren (Salen) Churi, Dr. Stephen (Kelly) Oleszkiewicz, Michael (Casey) Oleszkiewicz, Madeline (Ryan) Callen, Timothy Gallagher, Victoria Gallagher, Monica Gallagher, Michael Carlo, and Mary Carlo.
Great Grandfather to Grace, Charles, Claire, Rami, Charlotte, and Chloe.
He was loved by many nieces and nephews. He was cared for by his buddy and caregiver Lito Procianos, and a Friend to many.
Visitation for Steve will be Wednesday, January 24, 2924 from 3 to 8 pm and Thursday, January 25, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Pomierski & Son F.H., 1059 W. 32nd St. Mass of Christian burial is 1:00 pm at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church, 1039 West 32nd Street. INT Private
